    Hi Jamie
We get about £12900 a year for being a councillor. If you have extra responsibilities you get more, and I get around £10000 for being the cabinet member for education.
The hours you work are pretty much up to you, and it varies widely, but I reckon I do about 35 – 40 hours a week. It varies according to how many meetings i have to go to – residents meetings are usually in the evening, council meetings can be anything from 3 hours long to I think the longest one I’ve been in was about 9 hours. And you can’t predict when people are going to contact you with a problem that needs solving. But that means no two days are the same, so it stays interesting.

I get £12,900 a year. I pay standard rate tax, but no longer have to pay National Insurance. So I get £858 a month- say £200 a week.

I do every day of the week, both day and long into the night, so it works out about say £3 an hour or less- well under the minimum wage

I am always available throughout the whole of News Year’s Eve for anyone in trouble. A good friend was killed and his wife crippled for life one New Year’s Eve. If a resident needs help, what does it matter when? You get on with it.

Basic councillors allowance is £12,000 per year, last year I worked out that my hourly rate would have been about £7.20, a bit more than minimum wage but councillors are available 24/7. I’ve had people phone me at 11pm on a saturday night & when I’m on holiday
Some weeks you may only have a couple of meetings and a bit of casework, others you are in council every day and are getting calls all the time.

I get paid approximately £12,800 a year for being a councillor, and I also get paid an additional £6,000 for the position I hold as Chair of Finance, which ensures that taxpayers money is spent correctly and that we all get value for money for the services we receive.

The hours can vary, but normally you have to attend meetings during the day, but also in the evenings and on the weekends, as you have to make yourself available as to when your constituents want to see you. So your working days can be very long and normally involve unsocialable hours.

We have an allowance which is about £13,000 per year. As a cabinet member I also get a special responsibility allowance which is about £10K as well. The number of hours I work varies but let me put it like this. Every day Monday to Sunday, I will do work relating to the council. As I said in another answer, I like the job and often don’t really see it as work. Truth is it keeps me out of trouble!!

I get the basic allowance (just under 13k per annum) for my work on the City Council. I also get paid a seperate allowance for being a member of the West Midlands Fire Authority. I currently spend about 30-40 hours a week on my Council work, including my duties as Deputy Leader of the Conservative Group.

When I was in the Cabinet I could spend anything up to 60 hours a week on council business as I was always keen to be driving new initiatives forward, whilst also working on behalf of local residents. Yet the commitment level does vary dramatically between Councillors. Some are full time and really put the effort in, others are almost invisible. Whilst the latter does not apply to any of those taking part in this contest the electorate should take a close look at who they elect to represent them.
