By that I hope you mean having less of it, not more!
Some schools have had great success in tackling bullying, using peer mentors, special projects in the school, etc. It needs schools, and all the staff in schools, to accept that bullying is taking place first of all- if you don’t believe something exists then you can’t do anything about it. Then schools need to focus not just on major incidents like when there is a fight but on the lower level things that can be really hurtful but aren’t so easy to see going on.
Bullying using text messages and facebook is horrible – and easier to do in many ways because the person you are picking on can’t physically do anything to you at the time and often can’t do anything back – but especially over facebook everyone else can see what is happening which makes it worse. Schools AND PARENTS need to be doing more to challenge that, and to punish people bullying through facebook.
Once schools take the issue seriously and challenge bullying before it gets serious, it helps those that are being bullied by giving them the confidence to report it, as they start to see that action is taking.
I want to see more sharing between schools so that when we start to find out what works, other teachers can quickly learn from that and put it into practice.

Bullying and fighting are totally unacceptable. Sometimes it may stem from young people having had no real guidance when young. Single parents have a very hard time bringing up children-I know because I was one once.

And teachers need to get back old authority. Fortunately, we now have a much more realistic Government, and I believe there are plans for just that. So I hope things will get steadily better over time.

Young people have to know that it’s unacceptable and teachers need to crack down hard in my view. it’s worth saying though that bullying happens every where and is not just restricted to kids. Generally the people who bully are insecure who feel the need to dominate other people because they’re a bit pathetic. In any case, it makes the persons life who’s bullied terrible and we must expose it and crack down on it.

I agree with the other comment listed. Bullying is unacceptable and should be dealt with. Many who bully do have problems themselves that they decide to take out on others, yet it must be clear that whilst help can be provided to them they cannot causes others to suffer.
