I’ll check on whether there’s anything planned and then give a full answer

There’s some money that will be available like Kevin says.
But in the meantime existing equipment should be being looked after properly. I’ll get all that reported and try to get it fixed. I’ll also talk to the police and community safety in case this is vandalism that we need to be doing something about.

Hi Laureen, If you live in Cheylesmore then I am your local councillor, it is therefore a shame you did not direct this question to me as well as Lynette. I have been badgering officers about the need to improve the facilities, not just repair them, and ensure they are suitable for all ages, not just the youngest children. I have been told that there is a budget of about £45,000 due to be spent on this area and a consultation will take place later this year as to what it shoudl be spent on. It would be great if you (and your friends) take part in this.

This issue was also raised at the Ward Forum meeting in July and is due to be discussed again at the next one in November . you would be very welcome to attend and put your views forward about how this money can be used. Everyone who attends is really friendly so don’t feel scared, your views count as much as anyone else’s. The meeting will be held at 7pm on 28th November 2010 at Baginton Fields School. Also happy to arrange a get together on site to discuss this as well.

Hi Laauren, my personal thoughts would be to look to provide a multi use games area, the type that can be used for basketball and football depending on what is wanted. Other options include making the area next the changing rooms (where the youth shelter is) more interesting with an outdoor table tennis set up as well as a better surface. This is in addition to basic repairs to the equipment that is already there.

The key thing though is not what I think local teenagers would want, but hearing what you actually want. It woudl be great if you could come to the next ward forum, likewise I would also be happy to meet a group on site with the relevant staff from the council if that would be more helpful.
