I think the biggest challenge for young people is securing their future. It looks gloomy at the moment, with unemployment rising, university places being harder to get, and tuition fees for people that go to university likely to go up enormously.
So the challenge to you is to stay confident and keep achieving, because it will help you get to where you want to go, even if the journey might take longer than you hoped.

One of the biggest challenges at the moment has to be achieving a high standard of education, it may sound dull and boring, and you may have heard this a thousand times from parents and teachers. But if you finish school with a good strong education you can always go on to decide want you want to do in later life such as deciding what university or job you want.

This is so important especially in todays world where unemployment for young people is so high due to the lack of jobs, so you need a good education in order to gain good employment and most importantly work in a job that you enjoy. 🙂

Getting a good education- and tuition fees can be a problem I know.

Getting a worthwhile career. And job competition is very stiff just now.

Staying away from the irresponsible people who cause trouble in our society.

And I know that many young people do a great job as carers for the elderly, for example.

Life is never easy. And the old cliche is still true- when the going gets tough, the tough get going.

Moreover, it was rather different for me, as I accepted from the start that I might die. Other people are reluctant even to discuss the possiblity- I have never really understood why.

    . I wish you well.

It depends how old the young person is as to the challenge. With cuts to schools, then working in schools which are not fit for purpose will be a challenge. Cuts to colleges will mean less people getting on the courses they want to do. Less young people going to uni will mean less opportunity for them (and that’s before the government decide to put up fees for uni). Then there’s jobs. Did you know that about 25%of young people between the ages of 16 – 25 are unemployed. That’s terrible and we must do something to address this to avoid young people being cast adrift and forgotten. I have no faith in the Conservative government helping you out that’s for sure.

For me the biggest challenge facing young people is finding a good job that may lead to a real career. The recession did hit the city hard last year and the mess in the public finances means that the government will need to make cut backs. Over the last decade there has been a lot of growth in the private sector jobs in London and the wider South East, yet excluding Warwickshire this has not been reflected across much of the West Midlands.

in addition to this countries like India and China are rapidly expanding and modernising their economies. In the past we have lost manufacturing work to them due to the fact that companies can pay far lower wages to workers there, yet over coming years as more of their own citizens go to university they will compete for high technology work as well.

For me the Council and the government need to work together to ensure that businesses can grow in the city, that they are rewarded not penalised for taking on more staff and that their are incentives to give young people opportunities for apprenticeships and skills.

The lack or employment & training opportunities available, making it difficult to plan your future.
The scrapping of the building schools for the future which would have seen new secondary schools in the city.
Potential cuts to youth funding in the city.

    Whats your biggest challenge?
