Yes definitely, we need to be spending what money we have on what young people want, not what we think they should want.
The council has just decided a new policy on play areas, which basically says young people should be consulted more and we should use more imaginative play equipment, but maybe we should extend that to looking at the other equipment we use in youth centres and in schools.
Not sure I could make up new games, myself, but if you have any ideas please pass them on.
I love sport and try to get some exercise as regularly as I can. Sounds like you do too. Most schools have pretty good sports equipment but unless I know which school or area it’s hard to say exactly. I’m looking forward to the Olympics in two years so if you’re good at sport you need to practice – you never know you might get to the Olympics!
Is this sports equipment for school? If so its for the school to decide what they should spend the money on. If the sports equipment is for a youth centre, the youth centre can apply for special grants from organisations such as the national lottery who give donations. Hope this information is useful.
Absolutely. I helped Whitley Abbey get a new Sports Hall to ensure that there was a facility for sports like Trampolining. On making up new games not sure how good I would be at that one, but I think there is nothing better to make PE more interesting than allowing those taking part to come up with a new game they all enjoy, rather than being forced to do the one their teacher likes.
I am not sure where you live, but there have been some great new areas in my Ward, Westwood.
As always, it depends partly on the Planning process and above all on money. And things are likely to be difficult across much of the world for some time yet.
Hi, not sure which school you’re from but if you want to make suggestions perhaps you could become involved with your school council. At Holbrooks youth centre we ask the young people all the time what they want and try our best to get it. We write funding bids for equipment & consult on trips & activities.
