Hi Jamie, The best thing about my ward is the fact that despite it being close to the heart of the city there is a lot of natural beauty such as Quinton Pools and the Whitley Grove. You can be only two miles from the city centre, yet feel like you are in the middle of the countryside. It also means there are lots of spaces to play sport and enjoy yourself.
Westwood Ward is very varied. There is a lot of social housing, mostly belonging to Whitefriars Housing Group, of which I am proud to be a Director, mostly in Canley and Tile Hill. (There is NO “Council housing” in Coventry and some people get confused over that).
There are established shopping areas in Tile Hill Lane and Tile Hill Village. New estates, mostly privately owned, in Nailcote Grange and Banners Brook Estates. A lot of professional people, like Doctors, pharmacists, etc, live in the newest part, Westwood Heath.
There are older estates in Lime Tree Park area- indeed Standard Avenue really was at one time largely inhabited by people who worked at the Standard Motor Company.
I try to get around the whole Ward all the time, although, being disabled, I cannot walk very far, even with my crutches. So I run a permanent email update service for anyone in the Ward who likes to join in.
I NEVER pass on the names, but more people are joining all the time and I am frankly surprised that other Councillors do not do the same. A Councilor should be in touch with the people 7 days and 7 nights a week.
