Question: We are a group from Canley that is involved in the Our Choice Project ran by Groundwork West Midlands.
Why are you building on local green space used by local young people in Priorderam?
I’m not! This was a decision taken some time ago and I’m not sure quite how this all came about. What is noticeable in Canley and in Tile Hill (where I live) is the amount of green space compared to other aprts of the city so this may have had something to do with it. Canley is going through a redevelopment to improve it and has seen a new school and sports centre built in recent years which I know are of great benefit to local people. I would like to see where green space is built on that where possible it is then retained elsewhere to maintain the environment.
It’s very sad indeed if green sites are being built on, so I’ll take this matter up with the Council and ask further questions as why they are doing this as it just seems completely wrong.
I think it’s all part of the Canley regeneration isn’t it?
Sorry, I’m not really the one to ask for this – you should have asked David as he is one of the councillors for that area.
But if green space is being lost to development then i think we need to look at making sure that either another area is returned to green space, or investing in the spaces that are left to make sure you have facilities that you need eg play areas, MUGA etc.
