I try as hard as I can to help anyone with problems. I serve on various Committees and am a Director of Whitefriars Housing.
Always beware of people making exaggerated promises to impress you. There will never be enough money for everything, but I try to see that the residents of Westwood Ward are treated fairly.
I don’t always claim to make things better but I do my best I suppose. Since I was elected we have seen a new school built (Sidney Stringer), a brand new health centre (Hillfields), new Childrens Centre at Gosford Park, parks have been revamped and now we’re fixing the roads. There;s always more to do so let me know if anything needs doing and I’ll do my best to help.
Not sure which area you mean, so I’ll talk mostly about the area I represent.
I’m focussing on getting more facilities in my area, such as making sure that as new houses are built there are things like play areas and green spaces nearby. I’m also doing a lot of work with the police to combat crime in the area. That includes encouraging people to report things, and persuading people to be witnesses so we can actually prosecute those causing trouble. To help, I’ve been a witness myself twice, reporting things that I know have gone on, and sometimes that has helped residents feel happier about giving evidence.
I’m also trying to get residents to report more problems that they notice such as pot holes and litter – the council can’t know everything that happens, and both the police and the council tend to focus their work on where there have been complaints. If no one complains, no one knows there is a problem so nothing changes.
I worked with NDC to get the leisure centre built in Wood End, and I’m working with Manor Farm residents to keep the community centre going and get a football team up and running with all the equipment it needs, but I’m happy to hear more suggestions if anyone has them.
Not sure what area your refering to? I know councillors who work very hard together to improve all areas within Coventry, by trying to improve the roads, schools, parks, shopping areas, etc.
The area which I represent is Henley ward, recently the Council have spent a lot of money on improving the roads which local residents wanted as the roads were full of potholes, a new secondary school has recently been built called Grace Academy which has amazing modern facilities and I know the pupils really like and appreciate, as its such a nice and modern facility to learn in, a new leisure centre called Moat House Leisure Centre, 2 play areas, I’m sure there are lots more things which I can’t remember.
What would you like to see change to improve your area?
I am currently working on plans to rebuild the local Community Centre in Cheylesmore to provide improved facilties for all ages, in particular those aged under 18. A purpose built space for Youth activites would be for me one of the main benefits of doing this. I also want to see the facilities on Whitley Common improved.
Across the area I want to see better recycling provision and continued work to improve local schools.
Talk to people who live here and get their views, I can’t just decide what I would like. I spoke with young people in the Holbrooks area and they told me they wanted a youth club so I raised money to open one.
